The most prestigious Hollywood event was televised on ABC TV Network, and shown in over 200 countries worldwide including the Philippines.

But the Oscars 2011 could not have been exciting without the highlights and favorite quotes, as the yearly event always does.

Movie producer and director Steven Spielberg presented the best picture award to ‘The King’s Speech’, which also won the Best Original Screenplay and Best Director for Tom Hooper.

Best Actor winner Colin Firth admitted that his career seemed to be just starting and saying, “I have a feeling my career’s just peaked.”

Best actress winner Natalie Portman thanked her parents, mentors and fellow nominees, which was presented by Jeff Bridges.

“I truly wish that the prize tonight was to get to work with my fellow nominees, I’m so in awe of you.” Portman said, who earlier won the best female lead in the 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

This year, some unforgettable moments including honoring the Hollywood stars who passed away particularly those who made into winning Oscar awards.

To start with, Billy Crystal, a multi-time Oscar host, honored the late Bob Hope.

Singer Celine Dion sang ‘Smile’ beautifully, as photo clips of Hollywood stars who passed away recently were shown including Leslie Nielsen.

Oscar award winner Sandra Bullock presented the best actor nominees by citing some humorous comments.

Meanwhile, Charles Ferguson, co-winner for the best documentary feature film ‘Inside Job’ started his speech by saying, “I must start by pointing out that three years after a horrific financial crisis caused by massive fraud not a single financial executive has gone to jail–and that’s wrong.”

Veteran actor Kirk Douglas introduced the best supporting actress nominees with some ad-libs and amusing jokes, and later seemed to be staring at Anne Hathaway and stunned with the gorgeous actress.

“You’re gorgeous, where were you when I was making pictures,” Kirk Douglas said to Anne Hathaway.

“It used to be you get naked, you get nominated,” said Anne Hathaway said earlier, apparently referring to her film ‘Love and Other Drugs’ in which she was not nominated.

Anne Hathaway sang a few funny notes, and co-host James Franco joked. “I just got a text message from Charlie Sheen.”

At one point, US President Barack Obama appeared in a pre-taped video and picked ‘As Time Goes By’ as his favorite movie song, from the movie ‘Casablanca’.
