The seven wonders of the ancient world has been miniaturized for the “Wonders of the Ancient World: François Fouquet’s Model Masterpieces” exhibit at the Sir John Soane’s Museum from July 15 until September 24, 2011, according to the museum’s official website.

About twenty detailed plaster models of Ancient Greece, Rome and the Near East monuments are now on display at the museum named after John Soane, a famed architecture professor at the Royal Academy in London.

In the early part of the 19th century, Soane taught scientific and artistic principles of construction wherein he used architectural models created François Fouquet, a master designer.

Reports say that the exhibited collection shows a significant architectural record and how the English men applied ancient architectural principles into the buildings.

Among the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World being shown include:

  • Temple of Venus at Baalbec,
  • Parthenon, Arch of Hadrian and Tower of Winds in Athens,
  • Mausoleum at Halicarnassus,
  • Temple of Vesta at Tivoli, and the
  • Pantheon and the Temple of Fortuna Virillis in Rome.

The miniature models were constructed using metal armature and was fixed to wooden bases and covered by glass domes.

Interested viewers can visit the museum on Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and during the first Tuesday of every month until 9 p.m. Entrance to the John Soane Museum is free.
