An old Chevrolet Corvette was sold in an auction for $270,000. GM chairman and chief executive Dan Akerson owned the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette, which was sold for $270,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona this weekend.

The $270K Corvette was purchased by Richard Hendrick, the owner of Hendrick Motorsports and a known Corvette collector, the Washington Post reported.

The 1958 Corvette was said to be based on C1 which was launched in 1953. The $270K Corvette is considered scarce among the remaining 1958 models since only 510 of the 9,168 Corvettes were painted with the same Regal Turquoise color scheme.

According to a report by the Detroit News, the proceeds of the auction will go to Habitat for Humanity Detroit and the rebuilding of the Morningside Commons neighborhood.
