A $203,150 purse was sold to an anonymous collector in an auction at Heritage Auction house in Dallas on December 6, 2011. Several internationl reports say that the $203,150 purse, considered as the worlds’ most expensive purse sold in a public auction, is made of 18-karat white gold and diamond-encrusted hardware.

Hermès Exceptional Collection Shiny Rouge H Porosus Crocodile 30cm Birkin Bag was sold almost three times more than the initial estimates by auctioneers who pegged the handbag for $80,000.

Since its initial production in 1984, reports say that Hermès Birkin bags has become a symbol of lavish spending, luxury fashion, and exclusivity.

Producing one Birkin bag reportedly takes about 18 to 24 hours.

During the Heritage auction of the $203,150 purse, two other bags were reportedly sold for $113,525 and $95,600 each making it one of the most luxurious event in the history of the auction house.
