The 2012 Grammy Awards paid a short tribute to Whitney Houston on Sunday, February 12, 2012, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with Jennifer Hudson singing “I Will Always Love You“, as shown in the video below.

As aired at CBS on Sunday night, the 2012 Grammy Awards winners were announced, with event host LL Cool J offering up a prayer before the show formally started; and Adele, Foo Fighters, and Kanye West won the most awards.

Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson belted her own version of “I Will Always Love You“, Dolly Parton‘s song which was covered by Whitney Houston, who was found dead on Saturday inside her room at the at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at 3:55 p.m. (LA time).

As reported earlier, Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich announced that he invited Hudson to perform at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, which was a last minute change to honor the six-time Grammy Award winner, since the show was about 24 hours away.

Hudson, 30, who won as American Idol Season 3 finalist in 2004, won a Grammy Award via her self-titled 2008 debut album, which was presented to her by Whitney Houston, whom she claims as among her inspirations.
