As featured live at NBC on Sunday, January 15, 2012, Madonna was one of the award presenters and also won the Best Original Song in a Movie for her “Masterpiece” in the film W.E., which she also directed.
Madonna was introduced by host Ricky Gervais as the presenter for he Best Foreign Film award, and joked the 53-year old singer and described her as the Queen of Pop and “like a virgin”, which is one of her famous 80s songs.
“If I’m just like a virgin Ricky why don’t you come over here and do something about it. I haven’t kissed a girl in quite a few years, at least not on TV“. Madonna spoke, as she appeared on the stage before presenting the award.
Apparently, Madonna also had a controversial “word war” with British singer-composer Elton John, who was asked by a reporter earlier during the red carpet interview about the chances of his fellow nominees.
John, 64, who was also nominated for Best Original Song for his song “Hello Hello” in the animated film “Gnomeo & Juliet“, reportedly said, “Madonna has no f**king chance of winning tonight”, with NBC using its several-second broadcast delay to edit out the offending word.
The reporter asked Elton John if “they are fighting words” and the singer said “No, they’re accurate words,” and ended the conversation with laughter.
Later, the same reporter approached Madonna and informed her on Elton John‘s words and the “Material Girl” singer replied, “Was he wearing a dress?” and “May the best man win”.
