As posted by GLAAD on their official website that day, the 2012 GLAAD Media Awards will honor last year’s “outstanding images of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community” in film, television, music and media.

“As media continue to tell new stories about LGBT people and families, a majority of Americans now support full equality of LGBT Americans,” GLAAD‘s acting president Mike Thompson was quoted in a statement.

“This year’s nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community. Audiences expect to see their own worlds reflected in media, and today more than ever, those include the lives of LGBT people.” Thompson added.

According to the report, GLAAD revealed 116 nominees in 25 English-language categories and 35 Spanish-language nominees in 10 categories for the upcoming 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards.

For music, Lady Gaga is nominated for Outstanding Music Artist Award for her “Born This Way” album, while Ricky Martin is among the Spanish-language nominees, for his album “Musica + Alma + Sexo“.

On the other hand, Chaz Bono, who was a contestant in “Dancing with the Stars” last year, has two nominations; OWN’s Becoming Chaz in the Outstanding Documentary category and his story at “Late Show with David Letterman” for Outstanding Talk Show Episode category.

The 2012 GLAAD Media Awards will be handed out in three separate ceremonies, in New York City on March 24, in Los Angeles on April 21, and in San Francisco on June 2.
