As noted at US news sites on Monday, February 27, 2012, Juan Pablo Montoya was racing alone at the Daytona International Speedway and trying to catch up with the rest, when he lost control and crashed to the jet dryer that went into flames.

According to reports, Montoya‘s No. 42 Chevrolet race car skid in Turn 3 with 40 laps to go and hit the said truck, with the debris of the jet dryer blowing off the track as safety workers rushed to the scene.

Apparently, Montoya and the unnamed truck driver were both not seriously injured, and the latter taken to nearby Halifax Health Medical Center for observation, with officials trying to cool the track so the 500-mile race can resume.

David Blaney, who has never won a Sprint Cup Series race in 397 starts, was said to be currently leading the race when the incident happened, and was followed by Landon Cassill, Tony Raines and David Gilliland, all of them not popular in the race.

“It just started vibrating through all of the gears. Look at the back of the car.” Montoya was quoted as saying over his radio, noting that something in the transmission or rear end broke on his race car.

Earlier on Sunday, continuous heavy rain poured that forced NASCAR to postpone the event for the first time in its 54-year history for over 30 hours, while James Buescher won his first career NASCAR Nationwide series on Saturday despite an 11-car crash.

On the other hand, Danica Patrick was also involved in the collision of cars along with other drivers including Jimmie Johnson, David Ragan, Kurt Busch, Elliott Sadler and others at Turn 1 of the second lap, but later went back to race and finished on the 38th place.
