As reported at US news on Monday, April 18, 2011, the 2012 Beetle Volkswagen was unveiled prior to the upcoming New York International Auto Show and the Shanghai Auto Show.

According to reports, the 2012 Beetle is about six inches longer, more than three inches wider and also a bit lower than the existing model, with its price not yet announced.

Apparently, this is the same car that Oprah Winfrey gave away on November last year to 275 of her audience followers, as part of her ‘favorite things’.

This 2012 Beetle Volkswagen will be available with three choices of engines: a 2.0-liter diesel engine, a 2.5-liter five-cylinder gasoline engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with about 200 horsepower.

Interestingly, the name ‘new Beetle‘ was dropped from the car’s name and used ‘21th Century Beetle‘ which many believe that it sounds confusing since it will succeed the 2010 Beetle model.

Nevertheless, a note at Auto Blog says that “the 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine delivers around 105 horsepower while returning 65.7 mpg on the EU scale thanks to a start/stop and intelligent battery regeneration system”.

“That equals out to around 54 mpg on the US cycle, though the EPA may have something different to say should the oil burner show up in the States.” The site added.
