As announced by Nike on their official media website that day, a total of 1500 pairs of the 2011 Air Nike Mag are now being auctioned on eBay and will be on a 10-day sale.

According to Nike, 150 pairs of the 2011 Air Nike Mag will be available at eBay Fashion Vault every night from September 8, 2011 (8:30PM PST) and will go until September 18.

All net proceeds will go directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, the foundation set up by the actor, who played Marty McFly in the original “Back to the Future” movie trilogy.

Nike noted a $50-million match grant was given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation by Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki; which they will match through the end of 2012.

The ‘Marty McFly shoes’ was designed to be an exact replica of the original shoes that Michael J. Fox wore in the 1989 film “Back to the Future II“, but the setting year was 2015.

“This project is exciting to me because it brings together three very passionate audiences: the Parkinson’s community, the sneakerheads and Back to the Future fans.” Fox was quoted at NiceKicks.com.

“We wanted to translate the excitement people have for the ‘greatest shoe never made’ and for the Back to the Future into positive action,” said, Nike CEO Mark Parker said.

“But the long term objective is to raise awareness so the Foundation can achieve their goal of eradicating Parkinson’s disease.” Parker added, with the auction open only in the US.

The 2011 Nike Mag auction bidding reportedly started at at 99 cents a pair but bids rose rapidly in minutes and some models are now priced at $5,000+ a pair with free shipping.

Later, it was learned that British rapper Tinie Tempah bought a pair of ‘Marty McFly shoes’ worth $37,500.
