Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso wins the Korean Grand Prix over McLaren‘s Lewis Hamilton. Alonso thus moved up into the lead of the F1 Driver’s Championship. Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa came in third. Jenson Button finished 12th to dashed his hopes of retaining his F1 Driver’s Championship title.

With only two races remaining, Alonso now leads Red Bull‘s Mark Webber and Hamilton by 11 points and 21 points respectively. Red Bull‘s Sebastian Vettel is now 25 points behind Alonso, as he retired due to engine failure.

The rain delayed Korean Grand Prix started behind the safety car. However, after only three laps, the race was suspended and the cars returned to the grid. The race was delayed for about 45 minutes and re-started again behind the safety car.  The safety car came in only after the end of lap 17 and it was all drama after that.

It was a disaster filled race as cars crashed one after another. Webber collided with Nico Rosberg at Turn 12. Sebastien Buemi crashed his Toro Rosso into the Virgin of Timo Glock. Button was forced to run wide by Force India’s Adrian Sutil. Alonso himself experience problems in lap 32 as the wheel-nut on his front right caused him to hand over the 2nd place to Hamilton. Unfortunately for Hamilton, he ran wide at Turn 1 that enabled Alonso to regain the 2nd position behind Vettel.

Not long after, Vettel’s car engine blew up in a cloud of smoke and oil and Alonso took control with Hamilton hot on his tails. Hamilton, however never really gave a good fight as his McLaren’s tyres began to wear down.

Buemi and Sutil were meted a five-place grid penalties in Brazil due to their involvement in the car crashes. Sutil was fined $10,000 (£6,400) for driving his car despite knowing he had a brake problem.
