$2.1 Million Reward Given to James “Whitey” Bulger Tipsters, says FBI

$2.1 million reward was received by tipsters who provided information to the FBI that led to the capture of James “Whitey” Bulger and his girlfriend in June, according to reports by several international news sites on Saturday, September 24, 2011.

Reports said that the an FBI statement on Friday revealed that the $2.1 million reward was distributed to several individuals. The FBI did not reveal the names of these individuals.

After hiding for 16 years, the 82-year-old Bulger and his 60-year-old girlfriend Catherine Greig were arrested in Santa Monica, California. Upon their arrest, about 30 firearms and $822,000 cash were found hidden in wall holes of their apartment.

Before his arrest, Bulger was considered as one of FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list in 1999. He was the leader of the Boston-based Winter Hill Gang. He is facing 19 murder charges from 1970’s and 1980’s.
