A rare 1787 gold coin was reportedly sold by Blanchard and Co. to an anonymous buyer from a Wall Street investment firm for $7.4 million. The amount fetched for the 1787 gold Brasher doubloon is considered as one of the highest ever paid for a gold coin, according to reports by several international news sites on Monday, December 12, 2011.

The 1787 gold coin was minted by a goldsmith neighbor of George Washington, named Ephraim Brasher. Reports say that the coin has 26.66 grams of gold. During that time, gold is only worth $15 compared to current gold price of $1,500.
