10,000 Cattle Deaths: Cows and Buffalo Die Due To Cold Weather In Vietnam

Thanh Nien news reported on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 that the Department of Husbandry at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vietnam has announced that more than 10,000 cows and buffalos have perished nationwide due to cold weather conditions.

According to the said report, the province of Cao Bang was the most affected area with more than 2,260 dead cattle followed by Lang Son with nearly 2,000 cattle deaths.

Lao Cai province was also hit by cattle deaths with more than 1,400 while Son La reportedly have 1,300 cattle deaths. The harsh cold has also afflicted cattle herds in Ha Giang, Bac Kan, Quang Nam, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

Cattle deaths in Vietnam is the latest mass animal deaths being reported.

Meanwhile, the intense weather condition in Vietnam reportedly claimed four lives. Currently, more than 300 children were reportedly treated with cold-related illnesses.
