A 100-year-old marathoner named Fauja Singh earned a spot in the Guinness World Records as the oldest person to complete a full-distance marathon race in Toronto, Canada on Sunday, October 16, 2011.

Fauja Singh, an Indian-born 100-year-old from Ilford, east London took eight hours, 25 minutes and 18 seconds to complete the 100-meter race and made him the last competitor to finish the course, according to international news that same day.

The Sunday’s race was said to be Singh‘s eighth marathon since he first ran at age 89.

“Just before we came around the final corner, he said that ‘achieving this will be like getting married again’. He’s absolutely overjoyed, he’s achieved his lifelong wish,” Fauja Singh‘s coach and translator Harmander Singh said in a report.

Singh is hoping to participate in the torch relay for the 2012 London Games.
