$1 million coin minted by Perth Mint in Australia is the world’s largest gold coin, according to reports by several international news sites on Friday, October 28, 2011.

The $1 million coin about the size of a manhole cover weighs about a ton and has a diameter of 80 centimeters and width of 12 centimeters. One face of the coin has a Kangaroo image and the other side has the face of Queen Elizabeth II.

In a statement by Perth Mint Marketing Director Ron Currie, he said that the $1 million coin is “10 times bigger than the next biggest gold coin, which was produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.” He added that the coin was not for sale, however, they clarified that they can reproduce a replica for a good price.
