Kristin Harriger of Abilene, Texas received a $1.3 million utility bill for this month, the Business Insider reported on Wednesday, June 20, 2012.

According to the report, Harriger‘s electric bill for this month has a balance due of $1,381,783.92, as shown in the photo at the right. Harriger reportedly thought it was a joke and texted photos around to her friends.

When Harriger called the company, Potentia Energy representatives admitted that what happened was a computing error that somehow managed to escape their third party auditor. Instead of being charged at the usual rate of $0.09 per kilowatt hour(kwh), Harriger was charged at 100,000 cents ($1,000) per kwh.

The company promised to send the corrected bill immediately, though Business Insider noted that two weeks have passed already and Harriger is still waiting for the bill in the mail.

“When Ms. Harringer informed us of the erroneous bill, we responded within five minutes and assured her that we would rectify the situation, which is what we have done. I have confirmed that the erroneous bill has been rectified and a new/correct invoice has been issued in its place as of this week. Ms. Harriger should be receiving it in her mail shortly,” Sehr Charania, external affairs officer of the company reportedly told Business Insider when they inquired about its status.

Harriger‘s normal electric bill is only about $100, the report said. “I’m glad I didn’t have autopayments (set up), I’ll tell you that,” Harriger was quoted as saying.
