According to reports, the auction was made for Hurricane Sandy relief. The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta was reportedly bought by Larry Roth of Long Island. Bidding started at $315,888, the car’s base price, and reached $1,125,000 at the final bid.

“I had no intentions of purchasing another Ferrari. But I had so many friends and people I knew who were impacted [by Hurricane Sandy], I thought this was a great way to help,” Roth was quoted as saying by CNBC.

Reports said that the F12 Berlinetta is the most powerful road car ever launched by Ferrari. It is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2013 in the United States.

The auction was held at the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, reports said.
