“Harry Potter” final movie makes $168.6 million, now the all-time top grosser opening film in US

Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” is now being noted as the all-time top grosser opening film in the US, after making $168.6 million over the weekend, its first three days of showing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday, July 17, 2011, the final “Harry Potter” film has now made a whooping $168.6 million in 4,375 locations in the US alone, after another $42.8 million last Saturday.

Apparently, the said 3D film is now the top grosser opening film of all time in the US and broke the previous record of the 2008 film “The Dark Knight“, also by Warner Bros., which made $158.4 million on its opening weekend in 4,366 locations in the country.

Earlier reports revealed that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” made a whooping $92.1 million on Friday alone and became the biggest single-day gross of all time film in the US, beating “The Twilight Saga: New Moon“, which made $72.7 million on its first day.

As of this writing, the numbers for international market is not yet known but the eighth and final movie of “Harry Potter” is being expected to set record for the worldwide box office, with the last reported gross of $126 million outside the US.
