According to a Bloomberg report published online on June 2, 2012, the car was sold in a private transaction last month by the Dutch-born businessman Eric Heerema to car collector Craig McCaw. McCaw was a co-founder of McCaw Cellular which was acquired by AT&T for $11.5 billion in 1993. The transaction and price were independently confirmed by two specialist traders to Bloomberg News.
The apple-green Ferrari car is listed among May’s high-end sales at anamera.com, a website for classic car dealers. The car was acquired by Heerema for about $8.5 million about 10 years ago from Japanese collector Yoshiho Matsuda.
The new sales record beat the $30 million to $34 million paid for a 1936 Type 57SC Bugatti Atlantic in 2010 by Peter Mullin, owner of the Mullin Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, reports said.
