The world’s heaviest pumpkin, during the 2012 New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off at Topsfield Fair in Northeastern Massachusetts on Sunday, September 30, 2012, reportedly weighs 2,009-pounds.
Ron Wallace from Greene, Rhode Island received $5,500 for his winning pumpkin. He was given an additional $10,000 for breaking the one-ton mark.
It was the second time in five days that the record for the heaviest pumpkin in the world was broken.
During the Deerfield Fair on Thursday, September 27, Steve Geddes of Boscawen, New Hampshire broke the record with his pumpkin that weighed 1,843.50 pounds.
Reports say that it was the first time that a pumpkin has gone over one ton. Previously, the heaviest pumpkin ever recorded by the Guinness World Record was a 1,810.5 pounds by Chris Stevens of New Richmond, Wisconsin during the Stillwater Harvest Fest in Stillwater, Minnesota in October 2010.
