The winner of the 2010 International Children’s Peace Prize is Dominican Republic’s Francia Simon. International news reported that Simon campaigned for every child to be registered with a birth certificate, thereby granting the child access to education and health services.
Francia Simon’s campaign was spurred by her own experience which made it difficult for her to gain access to education and sufficient health services because she had no birth certificate. When she got her own, she started helping other kids obtain their own birth certificates.
Dutch Foundation KidsRight awarded $132,000.00 to Francia Simon’s project. Marc Dullaert established this foundation in 2003. From then on, the foundation funded programs of children which aim to solve problems in communities. Dullaert further stated that the award motivates children “to play a role in creating a good life…”
