According to Australian news sites on Monday, the newly-wed couple was on their way to the reception when the bridal car got burn which caused the bride and driver to be injured.
Local media identified the couple as Stephanie and Nathan Suter, who were married at the St Matthew’s Church in Albury but their wedding celebration was ruined by the incident.
The happy couple was boarding a Chevrolet sedan and the chauffeur was reportedly driving east along Dean Street when the wedding car suddenly went into flames.
‘It happened so fast, I just couldn’t believe it,” Stephanie Suter was quoted as telling ABC News Australia.
“All I remember is basically seeing smoke, then just feeling the heat of the flames and just trying to get out of that car. I was absolutely petrified.” The bride added.
Apparently, the driver, 33, whose name was not revealed reportedly suffered serious burns to his hand, leg, and face, and is now being treated at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
As Albury Civic Fire station Captain John Vandeven told the news, witnesses boarding the second car told him that they saw fluid leaking from the first car before fire broke onto it.
But before the firefighters came, civilians who saw the burning car immediately helped with fire extinguishers, as the bride’s wedding dress and hair are being caught by flames.
Meanwhile, the couple told news that the sad incident will not serve as a burden for their planned honeymoon.
