Venus Raj could have won the Miss Universe 2010

A few hours ago, I was among the millions of people around the world who watched the Miss Universe 2010 grand coronation night. And in my opinion earlier, Miss Philippines Venus Raj may win the most prestigious beauty title in the world; and I mentioned that a lot of people also share the same opinion.
But as we all know, 22-year old Jimena Navarrete from Mexico was crowned Miss Universe 2010 and Venus Raj landed as the 4th runner-up. I know that Miss Mexico deserved the title as she was really stunning in her red gown and her answer is brilliant. I also think that the other candidates did a great job.
Nevertheless, I think that Venus Raj could have won the Miss Universe 2010. But let me emphasize that this post is not to criticize or to blame anyone. This is just my opinion.
Anyway, the question that went to Miss Mexico is about the current problem in the Internet; in which her answer that children should be guided accordingly is always the best answer. In addition, her interpreter had the best choices of words. The questions for the other candidates I think were not that difficult to answer, except for Venus.
Well, it’s because I think it’s a very personal question. It’s a tough one, at least for me. I cannot imagine myself being asked with that question while the whole world is watching. In case you did not remember the exact question of William Baldwin, here it is again.
“What is one big mistake that you’ve made in your life and what did you do to make it right?”
And here is the answer of Venus, after she thanked the actor then greets the audience.
“You know what, Sir in my 22 years of existence I can say that there is nothing major major, I mean, problem that I have done in my life. Because I am very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So, thank you so much that I am here, thank you thank you so much.”
So what’s wrong with the answer? Nothing, but I suppose there is a smarter approach to answer it. She can at least mention a simple (maybe not the biggest) mistake in the past and explain it briefly. Or she can make a fun out of it by telling a short story when she was small or something like that.
So what’s wrong with the question? Nothing, but I guess one needs more than 5 minutes before an honest answer will come out. Who in the world can easily reveal his or her biggest mistake in life, especially to strangers and in front of a worldwide audience?
If Venus had picked other judges, she could have a better fight. On the other hand, I suppose other candidates will also find it hard to answer Mr. Baldwin’s question.
Again, this is only my opinion and I am not forcing anyone to agree with me. I still admire Venus for giving pride and honor to our country, and I know she has a very long way to go.
But if she encounters the same question again, I am quite sure that she already has an idea.
Congratulations, Venus Raj!

i think venus should have a pabakla answer to the question , i think the biggets mistake ive done was not telling my mom that i joined the natl beauty contest, to make it right, i have to win and win i did, o di ba , panalo, madam araenta should hire trainers na witty sa q and a portion
Having endured public controversy on account of her late-registered, erratic Birth Certificate and then overcoming it to recover her beauty crown from BPCI in time, MVRaj could have answered WBaldwin’s question better by speaking somewhat thus:
“I may have committed a big mistake in omitting the inelegance of my complicated origins as I competed for the Binibining Pilipinas crown. I made that mistake right by bravely declaring some sad details about my humble international beginnings. Happily, doing the right thing when it became due worked things out wonderfully and so, thank you so much to my family for all the love, for here I am tonight with self-confidence and audacity of hope to try to win as Miss Universe 2010!”
Exotic and regal Miss Philippines was No.3 in swimsuit and No. 5 in gown (same averaged rank with Miss Australia) — would she have made a different result had she touched on her publicly known imperfection? Still, making it to the Top 5 is in itself a universal honor, so… CONGRATULATIONS, MISS RAJ!
