Time travel plots on Chinese televisions are now banned, several international news sites reported on Tuesday. Reports said that China‘s State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) banned time travel because it “disrespects history” and it “lacks positive thoughts and meaning.”

In their official statement dated March 31, they said that time-traveling programs “casually make up myths, have monstrous and weird plots, use absurd tactics, and even promote feudalism, superstition, fatalism and reincarnation.”

According to reports, time travel plots along with any elements that contain “fantasy … random compilations of mythical stories, bizarre plots, absurd techniques” must be avoided by producers and writers if they want their shows to stay on the air. SARFT was said to have the power to cancel any TV show whenever it wants.
