“Thriller” Jacket of Michael Jackson Subject for Auction at Julien’s Auctions Gallery

The red and black leather jacket of King of Pop Michael Jackson which he used in his “Thriller” video is now being auctioned at the Music Icons Exhibition at Julien’s Auctions Gallery in Beverly Hills, according to several international news sites on June 6, 2011.

The “Thriller” jacket is just among the 600 items included in the auction. Other items from the legendary music icon include custom-made black glove which he wore to the 1984 American Music Awards and the wig he wore when he announced his ill-fated This Is It concert series in London. The two items could fetch prices at $30,000 and $6,000, respectively.

Auction administrator Darren Julien says the jacket is “the most recognized and significant piece of pop culture.” He estimated that it will pick up at a price ranging from $200,000 up to $400,000. A portion of the sales proceeds will go to The Shambala Preserve, which is home to Michael Jackson‘s two Bengal tigers, “Thriller” and “Sabu.”

The notable “Thriller” jacket was autographed by Michael Jackson. He gave it as a gift to his costume designers Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush.

The auction will be on free view to the public from June 13 to 25, 2011 at the Julien’s Auctions Gallery. Other memorabilias from musicians such as The Beatles, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and Justin Bieber are included in the auction as well.
