Target cheaper than Walmart, Bloomberg Study SaysBy Alex Jusi Madlangbayan on Aug 26, 2012 in Business, Lifestyle, Shopping •
Target is cheaper than Walmart mainly due to several promotions ran this month by the second largest US discounter, according to a study conducted by Bloomberg Industries.
The study, reported on Thursday, August 23, 2012, says that about 150 similar items at Target and Walmart were compared. With more food and back-to-school promotions, Target was found to be 46 cents cheaper for every $100 spent than Walmart.
Walmart spokeswoman Deisha Galberth Barnett clarified that Walmart remains the cheaper choice for every day shopping. In a statement, Barnett explained that “Anytime there’s an environment with high-low retailers, pricing surveys will reflect some differences… Walmart is delivering everyday low prices — not pricing gimmicks — every day, 365 days per year, not just during a single week or during a particular season. Our customers don’t have to wait for a sale or look for an ad.”
Despite Walmart‘s price-match guarantee campaign, Target was able to beat the leading retail store in the price war this month.
Target and Walmart reportedly both beat Amazon this month with a price disparity of 7%.
