Initial investigation results by Scene Of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) points to overspeeding as the cause of the Manila Skyway accident. As seen on CCTV recordings, the bus skidded about 32 meters in just nine (9) seconds.

HPG Superintendent Elizabeth Velasquez explained that the bus driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and multiple damage to properties. The operator of Don Mariano will also be charged and meted with fines as investigation revealed that three of the tires were already worn out and unsafe for a public utility bus.

Velasquez also confirmed that the franchise of Don Mariano Transit has been suspended three times already due to accidents involving their buses. The latest Manila accident may now result into the cancellation of the bus’ franchise.
