The season’s first snowfall in the US was experienced by residents in northwestern Kansas on Friday, October 5, 2012.
About a half-inch snow fell in the city of Goodland and other communities according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Reports say that by noontime, everything has been melted.
The NWS reported that more snow will likely fall in the areas of northwest Kansas, northeastern Colorado and southwestern Nebraska due to a system that will prevail from Friday night until noon of Saturday.
NWS expects a half-inch or less snow will fall in Kansas, and much lesser amount of snowfall in Colorado.
According to an NWS meteorologist, the Goodland snowfall on Friday is far from the earliest recorded first snow fall on September 17, 1971.
