Scott Pelley, Katie Couric’s replacement on CBS Evening News

CBS announced on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 that Scott Pelley will be replacement of Katie Couric as the anchor person of ‘CBS Evening News‘.

Scott Pelley, 53, a correspondent of ‘60 Minutes‘, will replace Katie Couric and will be on his new post on June 6, as confirmed by CBS on its news website.

“Scott has it all. He has the experience, the credibility and he is among the very best reporters ever to work at CBS News.” CBS News chairman Jeff Fager said on the report.

“We like to think of CBS News as the ‘reporter’s network,’ and I can’t think of anybody in this business better suited for the anchor chair than Scott.” Fager added.

“Scott is the ideal journalist to lead this broadcast. We’re very proud to have him guiding this news organization’s reporting each and every evening.” CBS News President David Rhodes said.

“He has a body of work few in the business can claim and will help us grow CBS News now and in the future.” Rhodes added.

“I am delighted to join the terrific team at the ‘CBS Evening News,’” Scott Pelley said, “It’s a privilege to work alongside the most gifted and talented journalists in the industry.”

Katie Couric, 54, known to be the first woman ever to anchor a weekday evening news program, announced last month that she will leave ‘CBS Evening News‘ and may do a daily show.

Since the rumors that Katie Couric will be leaving ‘CBS Evening News‘ on June 4 started, Scott Pelley is being eyed to replace her.
