Queen Elizabeth II becomes the United Kingdom‘s second longest ruling monarch on Thursday, May 12, 2011, according to reports of several international news sites. She is married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Queen Victoria still holds the distinction of being the longest reigning monarch in UK‘s history. She ruled the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland for 63 years and 216 days.
The 85-year-old Elizabeth II has been ruling UK for 59 years and 95 days. She has surpassed George III, who ruled as king from 1760 until 1820.
In September 2015, Queen Elizabeth will become the longest reigning monarch in over a thousand years of UK history.
Reports say that it will be a normal day for Buckingham Palace as they will not be celebrating the latest achievement of Queen Elizabeth II.
