Alaska Airlines has stopped the issuance of prayer cards with their meals in respect to the diverse religious beliefs and culture of all their passengers, according to reports by several international news sites on Wednesday, January 25, 2012.

The removal of the prayer cards was made after the airline received feedback from passengers who preferred not to mix religion with transportation.

Issuance of the prayer cards is a 30-year-old marketing strategy by Alaska Air. The prayer cards contain an excerpt from the Book of Psalm of the Old Testament and is printed over a beautiful photograph.

In a statement issued by Alaska Airlines, the airlines explained that they are stopping the issuance of the prayer cards because “some didn’t feel religion was appropriate on the plane and preferred not to receive one.” The airlines added that “After carefully considering all sides, it was agreed that eliminating the cards was the right thing to do.”
