A pear-shaped 110.3-carat diamond will go on sale this coming November at Sotheby’s auction house in Geneva, Switzerland, according to several international reports on Thursday, October 06, 2011.
The value of the pear-shaped yellow rock was said to have reached $15 million.
The Sun-Drop diamond, which was found in South Africa last year, was considered as the “world’s largest known pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond” as stated by Sotheby’s.
“This stone has immense presence and is truly stunning. It is also one of the largest diamonds ever to have appeared at auction,” David Bennett, Sotheby’s Switzerland co-chairman, was quoted as saying into a news conference in Hong Kong.
The yellow diamond is currently being displayed in Hong Kong before the auction on November 15, which is known as the world’s third largest auction center after New York and London, reports said.
