The Swinton glass box act is part of an “art performance piece” by the Scottish actress entitled “The Maybe.” MoMA staff say that she will be inside the glass for the whole day. They explained that “Museum staff doesn’t know she’s coming until the day of, but she’s here today. She’ll be there the whole day. All that’s in the box is cushions and a water jug.”

Obviously, Swinton decided to take her day’s nap inside the glass box.

Swinton is known for her unconventional ways of expressing art that include her latest MoMA project.

Several museum guests curiously watched Swinton while she was sleeping in the glass box placed in the middle of MoMA. Reports say that the location of the glass box will be randomly transferred in other areas of the museum.

This will be Swinton‘s third performance of “The Maybe.” Her previous acts were made at London‘s Serpentine Gallery in 1995, and another one in Rome.

“Hello Everyone, This tattoo was done for a woman who had breast cancer! Facebook keeps removing the post in 24hour as an offensive photo do to nudity.” A statement reads on the official Facebook page of Custom Tattoo Design on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, along with the photo of the tattooed chest of an unknown breast cancer survivor.

“However, we feel this woman is both brave and strong so we’re going to post it anyways and ask for your awareness and support. Please like and share this photo quickly to show your support for this and many other women who have lost so much. (Kind Comments are welcome) thanks!” The statement added.

The breast cancer survivor tattoo photo shows a chest of woman who underwent a double mastectomy. It is being totally covered with a tattoo of colored designed flowers along with a squirrel beneath them, and appeared to be a great work of art rather than offensive; probably even to those who are not fans of tattoo.

As noted at Daily Mail on Tuesday, February 19, it was posted by Lee Roller of Custom Tattoo Design and was taken from Bodies of Subversion: A Secret History of Women and Tattoo, 3rd Edition, a 1997 book by Margot Mifflin, which contains more than 50 photos of women’s tattoo art and is available at Amazon.com.

As of this writing, the breast cancer survivor tattoo photo has now more than 165,580 Likes and over 133,820 Shares. It also has earned nearly 20,000 comments, most of them admiring the tattoo and are angry at Facebook for taking it down. Facebook has not yet issued any official statement on this issue.

Apparently, the same photo was earlier posted at the official Facebook page of The Tattoo Page last January 24, with the caption saying, “This tattoo was collaboratively designed by Inga Duncan Thornell and Tina Bafaro, her tattooist, to cover the scars from Inga‘s bilateral mastectomy,” and has over 30,000 Shares.

The newborn 13-year-old photos

The boy in the photo is 13-year-old Latrell Higgins, who was adopted two years ago by Kelli Higgins‘ family in Florida. According to reports, Latrell told his mother, who is a photographer of children, that he wished he had newborn photos of himself.

“I thought it was funny and that it would be a good idea. I was very sad too because I didn’t have any photos of him. I think it’s really hard to have children and not know what they looked like when they were younger,” Mrs. Higgins was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

The photos show Latrell in poses as if he was newly born. The photos have gone viral, with more than 10,000 likes and almost 5,000 shares on Facebook at the time of this writing.

The family hopes that their “newborn” 13-year-old photos could help in raising awareness about older-child adoption, reports said.

Tomas Georgeson of Buckinghamshire reportedly left a blank check for $12,600 inside the Milton Keynes Gallery to attract visitors.

According to Georgeson the $12K check is hidden among his paintings and other arts inside the gallery.

The artist aims to raise the interest of local residents in arts. He said that he wanted to “get people through the door and change the mood of the place.” Georgeson even published an advertisement at a local newspaper that reads:

A blank cheque for £8,000 has been hidden somewhere in the public spaces of Milton Keynes Gallery. It will be collected on 1 March 2013 if unclaimed.

Georgeson reveals that the amount stated on the check is nearly all the money he has but assures that,

It won’t bounce if somebody finds the cheque and cashes it. I’m prepared to live with the consequences of that happening, and I could only be prepared if I thought it would really do some good

Giant Yellow Duck

Sydney Festival is an annual exposition of arts and music that will run until January 27.

Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman is the man behind the five-story, yellow duck. His artistic design made from PVC material was created in New Zealand. It reportedly took three weeks to construct and 30 minutes to inflate the giant duck.

In his website, Hofman described his creation by saying,

The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn’t discriminate people and doesn’t have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!

His giant yellow duck has earlier made appearances in Japan, Brazil and throughout Netherlands.

A 10-ton barge keeps the giant duck in place at the Sydney Harbor. It will stay in the area until the end of January.

As noted at CabinetOffice.gov.uk that day, Queen Elizabeth II honors 1,068 individuals in different fields including Education, Sports, Science and Technology, Politics, Arts and Media, Health, Public Service, Industry and Economy, and Community Services, from among the 1,223 people that was recommended.

According to the announcement, 286 individuals were awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM), 535 people for Members for the Order of the British Empire (MBE), and 247 others for Officers for the Order of the British Empire (OBE); where 725 of them came from performing community services.

Stella McCartney, who was awarded OBE, is the daughter of former Beatle member Sir Paul McCartney and Linda. The 47-year old fashion designer designed the uniform worn by the British Olympic team during the London 2012 Olympics. She was awarded as Designer of the Year earlier this month.

Peter Higgs, a multi-awarded scientist known for his works on the so-called God particle (or Higgs boson), becomes Companion of Honour (CH). Higgs, 83, is only the people in the field of Science and Technology included in this year’s Queen New Year honors list, which composed of 2.5% of all the awardees.

In the field of sports, London Olympic gold medalist and Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins and Ben Ainslie, noted as the most decorated sailor after winning gold medals in four consecutive Olypmic Games, were among those awarded into knighthood. Paralympic cyclist and Olympic gold medalist Sarah Storey becomes a dame.

On other hand, gold medalists Mo Farah, Victoria Pendleton, Jessica Ennis, and Katherine Grainger receive the honor of Commander for the Order of the British Empire (CBE). All in all, 123 athletes, coaches, and sports performance directors were awarded, which composed of 10% of all the awardees.

Meanwhile, actor Ewan McGregor was awarded OBE and singer Kate Bush receives CBE. Former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Arlene Phillips was also given CBE for her services to dance and charity. Illustrator Quentin Blake and industrial designer Kenneth Grange were both went into knighthood.

The 1928 movie poster of Mickey Mouse has been sold for more than $100,000 at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas, on Thursday, November 29 as reported on Friday, November 30, 2012 by international news sites.

The iconic Mickey Mouse poster was created and developed by Walt Disney in collaboration with Ub Iwerks. It was said to be one of the earliest surviving images created by Walt Disney. The poster shows a smiling Mickey Mouse waving his gloved hand with a slogan calling the animated mouse “The World’s Funniest Cartoon Character.”

The $100,000 Mickey Mouse poster reportedly sold by the estate of a Northern California collector.

BBC noted that “Auction house director Grey Smith called the poster “an important piece of pop culture treasure”, adding that it was likely to be the only Mickey Mouse poster created until 1930, when Columbia Pictures started distributing Disney cartoons.”

Meanwhile, the name of the lucky bidder was not disclosed. The $100,000 Mickey Mouse stock Poster measures 27″ X 41″.

According to reports, the painting, as shown below, depicts United States President Barack Obama as Jesus Christ with a crown of thorns on his head and looks crucified with his arms outstreched, and with the presidential seal as its background.

The painting by Michael D’Antuono was said to be due to debut four years ago in New York‘s Union Square but it did not push through because of public outrage.

“I always regretted cancelling my exhibit in New York because I feel my First Amendment rights should override someone’s hurt feelings. We should celebrate the fact that we live in a country where we are given the freedom to express ourselves,” D’Antuono reportedly told Fox News.

The painting is now part of a larger exhibit called “Artists on the Stump – the Road to the White House 2012.”

“The crucifixion of the president was meant metaphorically. My intent was not to compare him to Jesus,” D’Antuono told Fox News.

The Obama-as-Jesus painting is on display at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery until December 15, reports said.

World’s first toilet park

According to reports, the park, known as The Restroom Cultural Park, has a museum which displays ancient Korean flush toilet, Roman-style loos, European-style bedpans and fun facts about human wastes and a garden of squatting sculptures.

The park is located in the city of Suwon, about an hour outside of the capital Seoul. It was built in memory of their late mayor, Sim Jae-duck who is also known as Mr. Toilet.

Reports said that Sim had obsession for toilets and spent his life promoting public toilets. He reportedly founded the World Toilet Association and wrote a book entitled “Happy To Be With You, Toilet.”

The world’s first toilet park has no entrance fee, and has already attracted 40,000 visitors since it opened in July, reports said.

The golden Christmas tree, considered as the world’s most expensive Christmas tree in terms of gold value, is covered with Disney Characters that include Mickey Mouse, Tinker Bell and Cinderella.

Ginza Tanaka‘s gold Christmas tree was crafted from 40 kg (88 pounds) of pure gold, It measures about 2.4 meters (7.9 ft) in height with 1.2 meters width.

Reports say that it took two months for 10 craftsmen to create the million dollar golden tree.

About 50 pure gold silhouette cutouts of Disney characters were placed around the tree, and it was reportedly draped with ribbons made of gold leaf.

Tomoko Ishibashi, of the marketing department of Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry, explained that “Right now gold is over 4,400 yen per gram. We used pure gold and had an expert craftsman form each Disney character by hand.”

The golden Christmas tree can also be bought at $243,000 but with only 20 Disney characters and at a scaled-down size of 25 cm high.
