According to the announcement of NBC that day, the new SNL cast members are Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson, and Cecily Strong, after comedienne Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Abby Elliott earlier announced that they will not be returning next season, with no update yet on the status of Jason Sudeikis.
As noted in the report, the three new SNL members are Second City alums based out of Chicago and are popular in YouTube, with the 2012-2013 season premiere to be hosted by ‘Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane and Frank Ocean as the special musical guest.
Bryant, a Columbia College graduate, became a part of Second City in Chicago, where Gilda Radner, Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, and Dan Aykroyd also came from. She’s also performed at ImprovOlympic (iO), Annoyance Theatre, and in the Second City E. T. C. stage.
On the other hand, Robinson, who performed on Second City‘s Mainstage and in its national touring company, has filmed a pilot for Comedy Central and was later cast in a supporting role on the Groupon-inspired CBS sitcom ‘Friend Me,’ which stars Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
Meanwhile, Strong, is an Oak Park native and studied at iO and was a member of the conservatory program at the Second City training center. She has been a part of Second City‘s national touring company since 2011 and also worked with Second City Theatricals aboard the Norwegian Jewel cruise ship.
