A New Jersey bus from Lakewood, bound for Wall Street in the financial district of New York City, reportedly crashed into a mini-school bus on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
After the collision, the 55-seater Academy commuter bus ended up hitting a telephone pole and a tree. The school bus, with no students on board, flipped on its side beside a power supply station which was immediately shutdown as a precautionary measure.
Reports say that 17 individuals, including the driver, were injured from the Academy bus. The school bus driver and his aide reportedly suffered minor injuries. Luckily, the school bus was still on its way to pick up their children passengers when the incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m.
The bus crash resulted into a massive traffic jam in the heavily traveled route in New Jersey‘s northern shore region.
Old Bridge Township Police Capt. Robert Weiss said that they will review a video recording of a camera on board the Academy bus to help them in their investigation.
The Academy commuter bus driver, identified as Daniel Jean-Pierre from Barnegat, was airlifted to a New Brunswick hospital where he underwent surgery.
Workers were able to clear the area by noon.
