Atlantis, which was noted to be the final mission of NASA’s Space Shuttle, was launched successfully despite the bad weather with two lightning strikes near the Launch Pad 39A earlier.
The STS-135 mission carried four crew members including Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley, and Mission Specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim.
As reported earlier, Space Shuttle Atlantis will be on a 12-day mission to deliver additional parts and supplies to the International Space Station via the Raffaello multipurpose logistics module.
Space Shuttle’s final launch also carried the Robotic Refueling Mission, an experiment designed to test and demonstrate the tools and technologies needed for refueling satellites in space using robotic technique.
