Mitt Romney’s speech draw boos from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) during its annual convention on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Houston.
Reports say that the crowd from the nation’s oldest civil rights organization booed Romney because of his sharp criticisms on the policies of US President Barack Obama.
During his speech, Romney vowed to repeal the Obama healthcare plan. His stance however drew sustained boos from the NAACP audience.
Earlier, Romney reportedly received a standing ovation when he arrived to speak at the NAACP annual convention. NAACP members praised Romney for courageously facing the group even though 95% of black voters supported Obama four years ago.
According to reports, the environment changed when Romney declared that his policies would help “families of any color more than the policies and leadership of President Obama.”
Romney reportedly countered the boos by saying that “I have no hidden agenda. If you want a president who will make things better in the African American community, you are looking at him.”
