According to TMZ on Monday, June 4, 2012, which obtained a copy of the divorce petition papers, Mel Gibson’s dad filed the divorce last Friday at the Los Angeles Superior Court, and listed May 28, 2012 as the date of their separation.
Based on the document, Hutton and Teddy Joye were married on January 6, 2002 and had no children, with Hutton asking her soon-to-be ex-wife to pay all the attorney fees and also asking for spousal support.
Hutton Gibson, notably a devoted Catholic, has 11 children with his first wife Anne Reilly, who passed away in 1990, and the 56-year old ‘Braveheart’ actor was their sixth child. The couple reportedly has more than 50 grandchildren.
Mel Gibson’s father, who is a WWII veteran and a writer, founded The World Faith Foundation of California, and established a Tridentine sedevacantist congregation in Pennsylvania in 2006, which was called St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Chapel.
The elder Gibson made into the headlines during his younger years for being an outspoken critic of the modern post-conciliar Catholic Church and was also quoted in a 2003 New York Times interview questioning the Holocaust.
Back in August 2010, TMZ reported that they obtained an audio of Hutton Gibson being interviewed at radio show Political Cesspool Radio Program on his views about issues of the Catholic Church, where he said he thinks that “Pope Benedict XVI is ‘homosexual’ and and has a slippery character”.
