According to a report by Zachary Confections on their official website on Saturday, March 2, 2013, the company was informed on Sunday, February 24 by their outside lab that some of their Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs products do not comply with the standards, issuing a recall on Wednesday, February 27.

As noted on the press release, Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs with code dates D3245D, D3145E, F3145E, and D3245E were subjected for recall. They were tested in the lab and resulted potentially positive for Salmonella; and the issue was coordinated with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

However, the company emphasized that an independent third-party testing laboratory made subsequent testing and analysis on the same samples, and has confirmed that all-post production samples do not contain Salmonella and are safe to eat; and therefore should not be recalled.

“I am proud of the swift responsible actions taken by our team. I am comfortable with our decision to communicate with our Retail Partners and the FDA about this possible issue.” Jack Zachary of the Zachary Confections was quoted at ZacharyConfections.com.

“We are confident that our efforts as well as those of our retail partner, to remove the suspect product from the distribution channels, resulted in insuring that the American consumer was protected at all times.” Zachary added, with the company not receiving any illness report related to the marshmallow eggs recall.

The link to the Zachary Confections recall report was already deleted from FDA.gov.
