Manny Pacquiao Says Floyd Mayweather Jr. Doesn’t Want to Fight Him

In an interview with Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports, Manny Pacquiao said that Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t want to fight him, as reported by various international news sites on February 21, 2012.

“He talks, he says all this, but you know what: He doesn’t want the fight. I want the fight. I’m the one who has wanted this fight all along,” Pacquiao said.

Mayweather reportedly offered Pacquiao a guaranteed $40 million with no pay-per-view for their fight. Team Pacquiao rejected the offer describing it as a ‘bluff’ and ‘PR move.’

“He offered me $40 million, and no pay-per-view. No pay-per-view. Can you believe that? Would you do that? Come on. What would he say if I offered him $50 million – not $40 million, $50 million – and said ‘No pay-per-view. Take this money and be happy, but no pay-per-view.’ He wouldn’t do it either,” Pacquiao said.

“I told him, ‘OK, 50-50 and I’ll agree to everything else. I told him I would agree to all of the other things he was demanding. Everything. Even the blood testing he wanted, I would do it. But it had to be 50-50,” Pacquiao added.

Upon receiving a rejection from his 50-50 offer, Pacquiao then directed his adviser Michael Koncz to offer Mayweather a guarantee of $50 million with the rest of the revenues being split 55-45, with the winner taking the larger share. Unfortunately, Mayweather, once again, didn’t take the deal.

With no successful negotiations between Pacquiao and Mayweather camps, the two boxers instead came up with other boxing fight plans. Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to fight Timothy Bradley on June 9, 2012 while Floyd Mayweather Jr. is scheduled to fight Miguel Cotto on May 5, 2012.
