London Olympics 2012: Barriga Protest Rejected By AIBABy Marhgil Macuha on Aug 5, 2012 in Asia, Boxing, Sports, World •
The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) rejected the protest filed by Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) on the fight between Mark Anthony Barriga and Birshan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan.
According to reports, ABAP executive director Ed Picson said AIBA did not bother to watch the fight tape because they think the protest was “groundless” and “too subjective to review.”
Barriga was defeated by Zhakypov at a score of 17-16 on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Barriga received a penalty during the third round, in which ABAP protested believing that Barriga should receive three warnings before receiving a penalty.
With the rejection of the protest, Zhakypov will move to the quarterfinals while Barriga is now out of the London Olympics.
