Google Instant Previews Provide Snapshot of Search Result’s Webpage

By on Nov 10, 2010 in Internet, TechnologyNo comments

Google added another great feature for its search engine. Announced today, the Google Instant Previews feature provides a snapshot image of a search result’s webpage, a visual method of flipping through results quickly. This a follow-up to Instant Search, a feature Google launched in September that updates search results as people continue typing.

To see a preview of a result, user must click the magnifying glass icon next to a result’s title. After clicking once and opening a preview, you can hover over other search results to preview those pages.

According to Google blog, the benefits of Instant Previews are the following:

  • Quickly Compare Results
A visual comparison of search results helps you pick which result is right for you.
  • Pinpoint Relevant Content
Text call outs highlight where your search term appears on the web page so you can evaluate if it’s what you’re looking for.
  • Interact with the Results Page
Page previews let you see the layout of a web page before clicking the search result.

Google project manager for web search Raj Krishnan said that throughout the day Tuesday, Instant Previews will be launched on the Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer Version 8 browsers in the U.S. The function will also roll out internationally on Tuesday except in countries with “right to left languages, like Arabic, Persian and Hebrew, which will launch a little bit later. You can try Google Instant Previews now by visiting google.com/landing/instantpreviews.
