The Forbes 2013 list of billionaires has increased to 1,426 individuals, about 210 more than last year’s lineup. About 30 percent of the world’s billionaires are from the US with 442. Other top sources of billionaires were from the Asia-Pacific and Europe with 386 and 366 respectively.
Mexico‘s telecom magnate Carlos Slim retained the number one spot among the world’s growing list of billionaires with an estimated net worth of $73 billion. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates‘ $67 billion net worth puts him in second place. Amancio Ortega of fashion retail giant Zara, increased his net worth by about $19.5 billion to snatch third place from Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffet, who drops down in fourth position. Rounding up the top five billionaires in the world is Oracle top man, Larry Ellison, with an approximate net worth of $43 billion.
According to the Forbes report on Monday, March 4, 2013, the world’s billionaires has an accumulated net worth of about $5.4 trillion.
Below are among the new names who made it into the 2013 list of billionaires.
- Italy‘s Diesel Jeans owner, Renzo Rosso, $3 billion net worth,
- US retailer Bruce Nordstrom, $1.2 billion net worth,
- American fashion designer Tory Burch, $1 billion net worth.
Google co-founders, Larry Page with a net worth of $23 billion and Sergey Brin with about $22.8 billion, are in 21st and 22nd place respectively.
Facebook Chairman and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg is in 66th place with an estimated net worth of $13.3 billion.
