A small plane had crashed into the Publix Supermarket in Deland, Florida injuring at least 5 people, with the pilot and one passenger airlifted to the Orlando Regional Medical Center. This is according to U.S. international news, April 3, 2012.
Reportedly, three of the injured had severe burns, while two had moderate burns. There were eyewitnesses who heard the plane sputter before it dived into the Publix chain supermarket, reports say.
Publix spokesman Dwaine Stevens stated that:
“All customers were evacuated safely and all Publix associates are accounted for.”
Publix chain supermarket suffered some damage to the roof top and nearby businesses were closed to give way to emergency crews.
According to Boston news, the plane came from the nearby DeLand Airport. The identities of the pilot and the passenger are still undisclosed.
