The Ferrari 458 Italia has been awarded as the 2011 World Performance Car of the Year, several automobile news sites reported on Thursday.
The announcement was made at the New York International Auto Show. Reports said that Ferrari beat the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG for the title.

The World Car Awards jurors consist of 66 journalists from Europe, Asia, North and South America, Australia and Africa. They were said to be appointed by the World Car Steering Committee based on their credibility, influence, expertise and experience.
“Whether on the track or on a loosely policed winding two-lane mountain road, the technology on board the 458 sets it and its 570 metric horsepower far ahead of most every other V8-powered street car. This is a classic modern Ferrari in every sense, but its sophisticated handling abilities at the limit take it to a whole new level for Italian super GTs. And what a beautiful sound,” the jurors said in a statement.
The Ferrari 458 Italia joins the list of supercars that have received this honor, which includes the Audi R8 V10 in 2010 and the Nissan GT-R in 2009.
