It was reported in CNN on Friday, May 13 that “Liz #5”, a portrait of actress Elizabeth Taylor by Andy Warhol sells for $26,962,500 at an auction conducted by Phillips de Pury & Co. in Manhattan. Apparently, it was among the several pieces by Andy Warhol of Taylor.

As further noted by an expert through same news source, “Liz #5” received a lot of interest in the art world as her death brings a renewed interest to the piece.

In addition, Michael McGinnis, who heads the contemporary department at Philips de Pury & Co., was quoted saying, “In terms of its impeccable provenance and the quality of the silkscreen, this has perfect qualities.”

Based on records, “Liz #5” portrait didn’t come close to another astounding work of Warhol, “Green car crash – Green burning car I”, which was allegedly sold for more than $71 million.

Coincidentally noted, “Liz #5” portrait did come close to the sale price of more than $23 million when it was previously auctioned at Christie’s Auction House in year 2007.

  1. Unbelievable. Almost $27,000,000! Do you know what kind of homeless shelter we could build and supplies to help homeless children and their families for that kind of money? Vocational training, clothing, food, medical care and shelter? Have we lost the value of what is truly important? Yes, I believe this country lost it many years ago.The popular notion is that we are given this life to fulfill our selfish desires. But as this belief becomes more people, more people are diagnosed with mental disorders and substance abuse disorders. Go figure.
