As featured on Fox on Thursday night, Hollie Cavanagh was voted out while Phillip Phillips landed on the Bottom 2, while Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet were the first finalists announced as safe.
On Wednesday night, the American Idol 2012 Top 4 finalists had a group performance, two duets, and two solo performances each, where Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez received a standing ovation in Round 2.
On the first part of the Thursday show, Phillip Phillips was called up to the center of the stage and American Idol 2012 mentor Jimmy Iovine praised both of his performances last Wednesday, particularly when he sang “Volcano”.
Next on center stage was Hollie Cavanagh, whom Iovine said that her performance of “Faithfully” somehow worked for her that night, but later criticized her singing of “I Can’t Make You Love Me”, noting that she did not understood the core of the song.
Before Joshua Ledet and Jessica Sanchez for their turn to hear Iovine‘s comment, American Idol Season 7 winner David Cook performed his new single, “The Last Song I’ll Write For You”.
Later, Iovine told Joshua that he thinks “You Raise Me Up” was a not a good choice of song, with his second “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” notably the opposite, saying it was a piece of magic that he said he wants to see him sing that song again and again.
For Jessica‘s first song, Iovine said he thinks Jessica is ‘trick is old’ when she sang “Steal Away”, but her performance of “And I’m Not Telling You” is pretty awesome and that she brought everything to that song.
Before further announcements were made, judge Jennifer Lopez performed her new song “Dance Again” along with her boyfriend Casper Smart, to promote her tour with Enrique Iglesias.
Later, Jessica Sanchez was the first finalist to be announced as safe, and was followed by Joshua Ledet, with Phillip Phillips also declared as safe, leaving Hollie Cavanagh as the eliminated one.
