Initially, aerospace company is reportedly focusing on creating unmanned drones that can lift heavy agricultural load for quick delivery or provide supplies to individuals in rough terrain.
A mechanical system created by the California-based firm was able to fixed a stability issue of a 1960 hover bike design.
Reports say that the Aerofex design adds two control bars at knee-level that enables the vehicle to respond to an individual’s natural movement for balancing.
Aerospace engineer and Aerofex founder Mark De Roche, told InnovationNewsDaily that the hover bike is “lowering the threshold of flight, down to the domain of ATV’s (all-terrain vehicles).” Roche explained that “It essentially captures the translations between the two in three axis (pitch, roll and yaw), and activates the aerodynamic controls required to counter the movement — which lines the vehicle back up with the pilot. Since [the pilot's] balancing movements are instinctive and constant, it plays out quite effortlessly to him.”
Test flights of the Aerofex hover machine was conducted in Mojave Desert in California. Aerofex reportedly reached a height of 15 feet and speeds of about 30 mph.
A second version is reportedly being prepared for a flight in October. An unmanned version is scheduled for flight testing in 2013.
