82-year-old Sol Laufer will hold his bar mitzvah on Saturday, September 17, 2011 after almost 70 years in Chabad of Sarasota, according to reports by several international news sites on Sunday, September 11, 2011.

Bar Mitzvah is a coming of age Jewish tradition for boys who are turning 13 and for girls who are 12 years old.

Laufer, a retired founder of a high-end optic systems company, missed his bar mitzvah in 1941 after the Nazis held his family in a Jewish isolation camp during World War II. He got ill when he ended up in a concentration camp where he ate flour and sawdust bread and watery soup.

He finally got his freedom after the Soviets overpowered the Germans, but lost his entire family in the Holocaust.

Reports say that a Chabad Rabbi confirmed that Laufer is the oldest person that he will be initiating.
